What is a locking wheel nut?
A locking wheel nuts, lockers or wheel locks, as they are also known, are security bolts or nuts designed to prevent your tyres and alloys from being stolen. Locking wheel nuts originally became common amongst car enthusiasts who were worried about the theft of their expensive wheels.Usually there is one locking wheel nut on each wheel. Each set of locking wheel nuts has a unique key. The key usually comes in a set which can be found with the spare tyre or sometimes in the glove box , it will unlock all 4 locking wheel nuts. It is essential to keep the key safe and to always have it in the vehicle in case of an emergency. It is also a good idea to always make sure that you get your locking nut key back whenever your wheels are removed. Another common issue with locking nuts is a broken key, often it comes as a result of initially overtightened locking nuts.We recommend you ask whoever does work to your car to tighten them by hand to the correct torque (usually 110-120Nm).
